Blog Post 1: About Me

Paint Party with my boyfriend Jeremy

Hello class, My name is Emilie Rinehart and I was born and raised in Birmingham, AL and I try to go home as much as I can. The city is much more fast pace than Mobile. I lived in Birmingham for 20 years before I moved to Mobile to finish my education. I decided to move down to Mobile to experience new surroundings and change my environment. Living in one city for twenty years can get old. I am in the Early Education Program at South and I would really love to teach 5th grade. My long term goal is to become an Elementary Principal. I plan to get my masters in social work once I begin teaching. I have learned that you can do so many interesting things with a masters in social work. I might try to get into counselling after I teach for a few years. I also plan to get my doctorate in administration so I can fulfill my long term goal and become a principal. I really enjoy being in front of people and teaching while I am learning. I want to help people so the education field is almost the perfect field for me to do so.

I am one of four children. I have two sisters whom are my best friends and a younger brother that I absolutely adore! My dad is also a very big part of my life. I enjoy cooking and watching the Food Network to actually learn how to do the cooking. I am a huge animal lover-dogs being my favorite. I have a black Labrador back home (Chloe) and had a Boston Terrier (Lucy) who recently passed. I really would like another Boston or a Dauchound. I believe music should be a major part of everyone's day to day life. I enjoy listening to Dave Matthews Band, The beatles, 311, incubus, Cold Play, and many more great artists. I try to go to concerts and festival any chance I get, but it is tough during the school year. I enjoy being outside on beautiful days, but I also enjoy a good rainy afternoon.

I also like to visit the rec. a few times a week; it is a great way to relieve stress. I am really interested in disc golf and other activities which involve being outdoors. During the summer I try to visit the beach as much as I can and also go to the river/lake often. Fishing is an old hobby of mine that I have neglected lately, but would definitely like to pick that back up!

Randy Pausch: Time Management
Randy Pausch begins speaking about how to deal with stress and procrastination. I was actually thrilled to know that he was going to be talking about those two. Also he tells us that we should look at our to do lists if we have one and ask, "Why am I doing this?", and "What happens if I do not accomplish this?" I think he explains the to do list well. He talks about how it is okay to break things down into the smaller things and then the bigger and more important things. Randy Pausch also discusses how experience comes with time and it is really valuable. He states "Good judgement comes from experience and experience comes from bad judgement." I think this is a wonderful quote for future experiences. I think it actually means that even if you go through an event that is not exactly the most pleasant, you will most likely learn from it and remember that experience for the future.

Overall this video was quite informative and I will benefit greatly from watching this video. I also took a few notes from Randy Pausch and watched another one of his videos on YouTube. I had never heard of Randy Pausch before but I would definitely recommend him to another student or even someone who may be having trouble with time management.

  2. I know that sounds a bit ambitious, but that is who I am and who I want to be!

I am looking forward to viewing Randy Pausch's last lecture.
